On the 7th February, 2020 the students and the faculty members of the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Dhaka went on their annual picnic to the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) situated in Cumilla. This year, students of the 18th batch took leadership to organize the picnic.
The journey started early in the morning with two buses full of enthusiastic students and teachers. The team reached “Naba Shalban Bihar” at around 12 o’clock. After a short visit at the beautiful and majestic “World Peace Pagoda Analayo”, they again took off and reached BARD, just before the Jummah prayer. Being tired because of the dancing and singing during the journey, everyone rushed to the cafeteria right after Jummah where the grand feast was arranged. Following a short walk around the place, the games session began. Several games including lip reading, coin tossing, musical chair and cock fight were arranged on this occasion. The prize giving ceremony of GEBC indoor games and picnic games was held in the green and hilly premises of BARD. After this session the all famous Pandora’s box was played with the participation from students and teachers followed by raffle draw. The program came to an end with a short speech by Professor Dr. Anwarul Azim Akhand. At sunset, the team started their return journey and reached the campus at 9 pm. The Chairman of the department Professor Dr. Mohammed Nazmul Ahsan, Student Advisor Dr. S. M. Mahbubur Rashid and other teachers put sincere efforts to make the picnic safe and enjoyable for everyone. The organizing batch also had a wholesome experience leading the whole department through this sublime and cheerful journey.
